Objectives : Introduce the student into main translation methods and their implications for exegesis.

Learning outcomes: The student will achieve a more solid comprehension of the gospels of Mark and John, as well as be able to analyze them grammatically and syntactically. The student will also learn how to use larger Greek dictionaries and lexicons. Basic handbooks on Greek syntaxis will also be introduced.

Contents: Pronouns: reflexive, reciprocal, relative. Verbs: further explanation on the function of middle and passive voices. Verbal conjugation: future infinitive and participle; aorist indicative, imperative, infinitive, participle and subjunctive; perfect indicative, infinitive, participle and subjunctive; pluperfect indicative; verbs ending in – mi ; non-thematic verbs.

Methodology : Each class session will consist of three parts: introduction of the new material, reading of the New Testament, grammatical and syntactical analysis. There will be homework assigned as well.

Prerequisites: The student must have passed Greek I, or the corresponding qualification exam.

Means of evaluation: There will be two midterms and a final exam. The professor will explain the details at the beginning of the course.
