Objectives: To (1) introduce students to the study of Catholic theology, (2) assist them in understanding the material taught in the first year, and (3) teach them how to engage in research.

Learning outcomes:  Students will (1) acquire deeper knowledge of the nature, structure, and task of theology, (2) develop their capacity for theological expression, (3) integrate material from the courses of the First Cycle into their theological reflection, and (4) learn how to do research and write according to the norms of the Gregorian University.

Contents: The first semester provides a panoramic view of fundamental theology and considers the constitutive roles of Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium in theological study. Specific attention will be given to how these elements shape the study of Christology. The second semester continues this approach by considering several further areas of theology to be determined in consultation with the class.

Methodology : Presentation of key themes and questions from the readings, followed by guided discussion.

Means of evaluation : Students write regular one-page papers on the readings and come prepared to engage in discussion. Each student also makes one in-class presentation per semester. At the end of the second semester, students will submit an essay of at least 2500 words.
