Objectives. In this course, we respond to the call of Pope Leo XIV to work for peace in the midst of “constant of conflict at home, at work, and in society.” We want to develop an understanding of conflict management within organisations as well as in the immediate social context where the organizations operate. The aim is to enhance the students’ existing skills in negotiation and peace communication in their corporate and pastoral ministries.
Content. This course introduces the students to conflict theories and approaches, negotiation processes, and third-party intervention through the study of strategies and tactics, interaction processes, phases of negotiation development, and conflict framing. Lessons are taken from benchmark experiences in handling organizational tensions and challenges, as well as from the pastoral insights inspired by the Catholic Social Teachings, with special focus on their application to nonprofit organizations and Church-related ministries.
Methodology. The course will primarily consist of lectures by the professor, based on the required readings, from which personal reflections and group discussions will be developed. Students are required to complete the assigned readings in advance and are expected to participate actively in class discussions.
