Objectives : CSA responds to the Church call for a type of communication that is ‘ gentle and at the same time prophetic…even if doing so means going against the tide’ (Pope Francis 57th World Communications Day, 24 January 2023). Those missioned to spread the Gospel, especially with its necessary social implications ( Fratelli Tutti, 86), must listen to the people in the margins and amplify their voices in the power-laden multisectoral world of the public sphere at multiple levels---local, regional and global.

Content : This praxis-oriented course covers framework, groundwork and network: (1) Framework includes modules on social discernment, issue mainstreaming, mindset shifting and evidence-based research utilization that may be useful in working with policy makers and civil society organizations, especially on themes like peace and justice, human rights, indigenous peoples, women, and ecology; (2) Groundwork refers to skills set that includes policy influencing, lobbying, campaigning, rights claiming, protesting, and strategizing; (3) Network expands partnership and platforms for action to serve the needs and interests of the students in their present and prospective social ministries.

Methodology: The professor’s input based on personal engagement shall be combined with students’ collaborative projects and personal reflections, as well as occasional guesting of practitioners. English and Italian shall be used in class.

Mode of Valuation: Small-group reports on local or online campaigns merits high value. Individual Social Advocacy Plan, in print and digital formats, forms half of final grade.
