Objectives : Introduce the student into the broader linguistic and exegetical importance of the New Testament Greek.

Learning outcomes : The student will achieve the capacity to read Greek, use smaller dictionaries, analyze grammatically and comprehend simple texts from the gospels of Mark and John.

Contents: Alphabet, pronunciation, writing, and transliteration. Nouns and adjectives (comparative and superlative): function of cases and declensions. Pronouns: personal, possessive, demonstrative, interrogative and indefinite. Prepositions and adverbs. Verbs: their function and the meaning of the active, middle, and passive voice; tenses and moods; conjugations: present indicative, imperative, infinitive, participle; imperfect and future indicative active; the verb eimi ; the main deponent verbs.

Methodology : Each class session will consist of three parts: introduction of the new material, reading the New Testament, practical exercises. There will be homework assigned as well.

Means of evaluation: There will be two midterms and a final exam. The professor will explain the details at the beginning of the course.
