Objectives : To help students elaborate a comprehensive synthesis of their theological studies from the integrating perspective of mission.
Learning outcomes: Students will be able to: 1) explain how the Catholic Church understands mission today, drawing primarily from the documents of Vatican II, and important documents of Popes Paul VI, John Paul II, and Francis; 2) revisit the essential theological tracts (Trinity, Christology, Ecclesiology, Theological Anthropology, Sacraments, Eschatology, etc.) from the perspective of mission; 3) reflect on the practice of mission in their concrete ecclesial contexts.
Contents: Inspired by Pope Francis’ “dream” of a “missionary conversion” of the Church, in which everything in the life in the Church is oriented toward “the evangelization of today’s world,” ( Evangelii Gaudium, 25, 27), the seminar will help students develop a missional reading and synthesis of dogmatic theology, and to reflect on the practice of mission in their particular contexts.
Methodology: Lectures, class discussions, student presentations.
Means of evaluation : The grade for the first semester will be based on a short paper of 10 pages and class participation. The basis for the grade for the second semester will be the weekly syntheses, the presentation of the student, and the quality of participation during the course of the year.
