Description
Johannine Literature is composed of five writings: The Gospel of John, the three Johannine Epistles, and the Book of Revelation. Even if not all exegetes agree that they are from the same author(s), there is a consensus from early church tradition to contemporary scholarship to attribute these New Testament writings to the apostle John. This course will be an introduction to Johannine Literature (gospel, letters, and apocalypse), presenting and discussing their outlines, main themes, theology, and major issues raised by recent scholarship.
Objectives
To introduce students to Johannine Literature and a critical evaluation of the main questions raised in contemporary New Testament scholarship.
Modality
Class lectures and guided discussions.
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated based on a short paper (2 pages), an article review (3 pages), and a book review (5 pages) on topics related to the content of the course. The assignments can be written in English, Italian, French or Spanish.
