School of Contemplative Prayer

We are pleased to share the upcoming week of Contemplative Exercises following the method of Fr. Franz Jalics SJ, taking place from 29 May to 5 June 2026 at the Monastero di San Magno community in Fondi. This retreat offers a time of silence, listening, and inner openness, inspired by the simplicity of the contemplative path described by Fr. Jalics: “God is simple… It consists in turning gently, humbly, and constantly toward God.” Details and registration information can be found in the attached flyer.

The School of Contemplative Prayer is a year-long journey open to students, faculty, and friends of the Gregorian University. Its aim is to introduce participants to the prayer of Jesus and to contemplative life, following the method of Fr. Franz Jalics, S.J. (Contemplative Retreat. An introduction to the contemplative way to life and to the Jesus prayer). This is not a theoretical course, but an experiential path. Prayer is not a theory—it is a way of life, learned through living.

The programme is scheduled to begin on 24 October 2025.

Requirements:

  • taking up half an hour of quiet prayer every day
  • Regular participation, once a week, in the group where prayer is practised and teaching is received
