Objectives: The purpose of this experiential laboratory is to guide students in integrating academic research with the practical testing and validation of the case study proposal developed during Laboratory 1. Students will critically examine their research hypothesis, evaluate evidence supporting the identified problem, validate the proposed value proposition and solution, and develop strategies that ensure financial viability, sustainability, scalability, and responsible implementation. The laboratory culminates in the successful defense and presentation of an integrated case study demonstrating both scholarly rigor and practical applicability.
Contents: Building directly upon the foundation established in Laboratory 1, students will conduct applied research to test, validate, and refine their hypothesis through qualitative and quantitative methods appropriate to their project. The laboratory addresses research design, data collection, analysis, stakeholder validation, impact measurement, risk assessment, financial sustainability, implementation planning, governance considerations, and long-term scalability. Students will critically evaluate assumptions, interpret research findings, strengthen the evidence supporting
their proposed solution, and produce a comprehensive case study demonstrating the academic, social, and operational viability of their project.
Methodology: The laboratory follows an experiential and research-based methodology integrating professional and faculty supervision and mentorship, independent investigation, peer review, applied research, workshops, and collaborative learning. Students participate in regular project reviews, iterative testing of assumptions, structured reflection, and evidence-based refinement of their case studies. Continuous mentoring supports the integration of scholarly research with practical innovation, enabling students to develop solutions that are intellectually rigorous, socially impactful, and operationally sustainable.
Means of Evaluation: Student performance will be evaluated on the quality and consistency of participation throughout the laboratory, including engagement in discussions, research activities, peer collaboration, project development, and responsiveness to constructive feedback. The principal summative assessment consists of a comprehensive Final Presentation in which students formally defend their case study, demonstrating the validity of their research hypothesis, the strength of their problem analysis, the credibility of their value proposition and proposed solution, the management of identified risks, and the long-term financial and organizational sustainability of the initiative. Evaluation emphasizes both scholarly excellence and the student’s ability to communicate and defend a practical solution to a significant societal challenge.
