SL2001  ORGANIZATION THEORY (A.Y. 2026/2027)

Objectives: Effective leadership requires the ability to assess how an organization is performing, understand the factors driving that performance, and identify how to lead meaningful change. This course equips students with practical frameworks to diagnose organizational challenges and evaluate how factors such as structure, processes, capabilities, decision-making approaches, reward systems, information systems, and culture influence organizational effectiveness.

Students will develop the ability to analyze organizations as integrated systems, understand how external forces drive organizational adaptation and transformation, and identify leadership approaches that enable successful change. Particular emphasis is placed on leading organizational transformation, navigating complexity, and fostering ethical leadership.

Contents: The course examines the key organizational drivers that shape performance and behaviour. Topics include organizational structure, culture, decision-making processes, organizational capabilities, incentives and reward systems, and the management of organizational change and transformation.

Students will explore how leaders influence organizational effectiveness, how organizations respond to changing external environments, and how leadership approaches affect organizational outcomes. Additional topics include organizational politics, conflict management, ethical leadership, and the promotion of ethical behaviour within organisations.

Throughout the course, students will apply concepts and frameworks through case studies, organizational analysis, and discussion of real-world leadership situations.

Methodology: The course employs a highly interactive and practice-oriented instructional approach that combines lectures, case studies, collaborative discussion, and applied organizational analysis. Foundational concepts and frameworks are reinforced through real-world examples and hands-on discussion of organizational challenges and leadership decisions.

Students are expected to actively participate in class discussions, engage critically with case studies, and contribute their own observations and experiences. The course emphasizes practical application, peer learning, and the development of analytical and leadership judgment.

Means of Evaluation: Students will be assessed based on the quality of their participation and engagement throughout the course, including contributions to discussions, case analyses, and collaborative learning activities.

The primary formal assessment will consist of a final group case analysis that integrates the major concepts and frameworks covered during the course. Students will be evaluated on their ability to diagnose organizational challenges, analyze the drivers of organizational performance, and propose practical and ethically grounded leadership responses.
