Objectives : To critically examine Vatican II and its interpretations from various perspectives.
Learning outcomes : Demonstrate a strong understanding of Vatican II's documents and key themes, engage with various theological and ecclesial interpretations, and reflect on contemporary challenges and opportunities in implementing the Council’s reforms.
Contents : The reception of church councils is a slow process, and the Second Vatican Council is no exception. Decades after its closure, its reception and application are still in the early stages. The various interpretations of the Council—how it has been perceived and understood over the years—are key to understanding its impact and future.
Methodology : The course consists mainly of lectures and discussions.
Criteria of evaluation: Active participation in class discussions will weigh considerably and final oral exam focusing on the materials treated in the course.
