TS2035 IGNATIAN MYSTICAL TRADITION AND JESUIT MYSTICISM (A.Y. 2026/2027)

Objectives: To help the participants to understand Ignatian and Jesuit mysticism by reading and analysing some selected writings of Ignatius him‧self and a few Jesuit Mystics.
Learning outcomes: The course will tackle vexed questions which still mark mystical life and prayer today, such as passivity, purification, percep‧tion of God in daily life and work.
Contents: 1. The Mystic and his Experience. 2. Ignatius’ Mysticism. 3. Transition from the Spiritual Exercises to the Spiritual Diary. 4. Liberty and Personal Limitations. 5. Mysticism on Trial. 6. The Mystical Annihila‧tion. 7. Mysticism, an answer to the Spiritual crisis of a Religious Order? 8. The Ignatian Mystical Doctrine.
Methodology: We will follow the structure of the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm.
Means of evaluation: A mid-term written examination and a final written examination.
