TS2028  IGNATIAN SPIRITUAL ACCOMPANIMENT: THEORY AND PRACTICE (A.Y. 2026/2027)

Objectives : This course introduces the theology and practice of spiri‧tual accompaniment in the Ignatian tradition, rooted in the Spiritual Exer‧cises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. It aims to deepen understanding of discern‧ment, spiritual conversation, and the role of the accompanier in helping persons recognize God’s action in their lives.

Learning outcomes: Participants will be able to explain the founda‧tions of Ignatian spiritual accompaniment, interpret key elements of the Spiritual Exercises related to guidance, and apply basic principles of dis‧cernment and spiritual conversation in pastoral contexts.

Contents: The course is divided into two parts. The first examines the theological foundations of accompaniment in the Ignatian tradition: Igna‧tian anthropology, discernment of spirits, the structure of the Spiritual Ex‧ercises , and the role of the accompanier. The second focuses on case studies and pastoral applications, including spiritual conversation, accompaniment in retreats, and pastoral situations.

Methodology: Lectures, reading of Ignatian texts, group work, and case studies.

Means of evaluation: Participation, Class Presentation, and Final Oral Exam.
