Objectives: The course invites the students to put themselves in Ig‧natius’s shoes and to experience being pilgrims themselves in Ignatian Rome. The aim of this course is 1. to retrace the mystical journey of Ig‧natius by visiting the Ignatian places in the city of Rome and by reading ex‧cerpts from some of his writing; 2. to engage in personal integration of our shared experience and learning through spiritual conversations.

Learning outcomes: The students will acquire familiarity with Igna‧tian places in Rome and with the spiritual and apostolic significance of each of those places.

Contents: Visits to Ignatian sites, including the Rooms of Ignatius, the Gesù Church, the Church of St. Ignatius, the diverse residences of Ignatius and his early companions, La Storta, and St. Paul’s Outside the Walls.

Methodology: Visits to Ignatian sites in Rome and spiritual conversa‧tions will be conducted in alternate weeks. The theme of the spiritual con‧versation will not be limited to the spiritual and apostolic significance of the Ignatian places visited but will include consideration of both the as‧signed readings and the spiritual movements experienced while encounter‧ing Ignatian themes in the students’ other courses.

Means of evaluation: A ten-page written work which should be in the genre of a journal, a combination of travel and spiritual journal.
