Objectives: This course treats the Constitutions of the Society of Jesus within the broader context of Ignatian spirituality and with attention to the historical context that informed the drafting of the text. Attention is also given to the interpretation of the text over the course of Jesuit history.

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to identify key structural and thematic elements of the Constitutions and articulate how the text re‧flects St. Ignatius’s spirituality and worldview.

Contents: This course proposes a close reading of the text of the Ig‧natian Constitutions and the study of selected commentaries.

Methodology: Lectures by the professor and class discussions.

Means of evaluation: Class participation, short written assignments and a final paper.
