Quality Committee

Dear students, professors, faculty and employees,

we have concluded the first year of integration of the three Jesuit academic institutions in Rome: the Pontifical Biblical Institute, the Pontifical Oriental Institute, and the Collegium Maximum—as an internal division of the University—which encompasses the faculties, institutes, and centers of the Gregorian University as we have known it until now.

We have faced several challenges and taken important steps towards the reality of a single University. The Quality Commission has dealt with several issues during the past academic year: updating the text of the “Declaration of Intent” of the integrated University; updating the general rules on plagiarism to be applied throughout the University, which are currently being defined, while the various protocols to be followed in cases of plagiarism are the responsibility of the individual Missions; developing a single model for the CVs of professors and lecturers for the website.

This year saw the launch of the “Training and Innovation in University Teaching” project carried out by the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences Auxilium, a project that aims to respond to the need for updating in the area of university teaching for lecturers and doctoral students who are preparing to take up teaching positions at the Gregorian and Auxilium.

The first event of this project was a meeting held by Prof. Susanna Sancassani, from METID - Task Force “Innovation Teaching and Learning” - at the Politecnico di Milano, on March 1, 2025, on the topic “Designing educational innovation for meaningful learning.” On March 31 and May 28, focus groups on educational innovation were held, attended by several professors, lecturers, and doctoral students. During this year, we will review the Strategic Plan drawn up just before the integration in order to remodel it according to new needs and perspectives. I hope that everyone will feel involved in these activities that engage us in the development and growth of our University.

I thank everyone for their cooperation and greet you cordially,

P. Mark A. Lewis, SJ

Rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University and Chair of the Commission on Quality
