The Doctorate in Sacred Theology is divided into four phases:

  • Cursus ad doctoratum, which lasts until the submission of the Argomento (Thesis proposal);
  • Schola doctoralis, during the first and second year;
  • Research stage, from the approval of the Argomento to the presentation of the Project;
  • Submission and defense of the Dissertation.

The Schola doctoralis is the way in which the Department of Dogmatics accompanies students during the two years of mandatory residence in Rome.

Schola doctoralis of the first year

During the meetings of the Schola doctoralis, the following topics will be discussed:

1 - What are the demands of a doctoral dissertation in general (research work; procedure of argumentation; depth, breadth and originality of the investigation) and in particular of a doctorate in dogmatics (specific method; particular scientificity)?

2 - What are the various types of theses?

3 - How do you identify a research topic?

4 - What are the various possible methods?

5 - How do I choose a Moderator?

6 - How is the preliminary research carried out in view of the thesis proposal?

7 - How do I use the tools available (library, electronic resources)?

8 - How are the new Typographical Norms of the Faculty implemented?

9 - How to use artificial intelligence wisely?

10 - How to write a thesis proposal (title and subtitle; motivation for the research; object and method; research hypothesis; status quaestionis; heuristic structure; bibliography)?

Participation in the Schola doctoralis is mandatory.

Schola doctoralis of the second year

The Schola doctoralis of the second year will continue with the presentation of the Thesis proposals to the group of doctoral students, in the presence of the Director of the Department and the Thesis Moderator. Each presentation will be followed by a debate with the participants, to encourage joint research.
