- Solidarietà, Identità e Verità. Una riflessione sulle orme di Giovanni Paolo II
As part of the second edition of the John Paul II Days at the Pontifical Universities of Rome, we are offering a symposium on the theme: ‘Solidarity, Identity and Truth.’ John Paul II's fundamental insight – that authentic solidarity arises from the recognition of the dignity of each person and that particular identities are purified and enriched by openness to the universal – remains as valid today as ever. The principle of solidarity does not eliminate personal, cultural, national and religious differences, but transforms them into shared wealth for the building of the common good. Starting from this conviction of Pope Wojtyła, three speakers at the symposium will offer an interdisciplinary reflection (philosophical, theological and social) on the different dimensions of solidarity (openness to others) and identity (being oneself) in the context of today's challenges. In other words, it is a question of combining the “courage of truth” – which John Paul II embodied throughout his life – with the “civilisation of love” that he tirelessly proclaimed.
