PRESENTAZIONE DEI VOLUMI IN NUOVA EDIZIONE DEL CARD. GIANFRANCO GHIRLANDA S.J.

In view of Pope Francis' concern for the renewal of the Church and consequently also of canon law, it became necessary for Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda S.J. to publish an updated edition of three volumes. Compendium of Church Law, for the Institutional Course in the Faculties of Theology, whose last edition, the eighth, was dated 2019; The Sacrament of Orders and the Life of Clerics (cann. 1008-1054; 232-297), for the Licentiate in the Faculties of Canon Law, whose first edition was dated 2019; Universal Church and Particular Church (cann. 330-572), also for the Licentiate in the Faculties of Canon Law, whose first edition was dated 2023. The three volumes taken together show the author's coherence of thought and method in highlighting the theological foundations of canon law in general and of the individual institutions taken into consideration, whereby ecclesiology and canon law are intertwined, bringing out the peculiar nature of the latter. The fact that an updated re-edition was necessary, even after a not too long time, shows that law as a human phenomenon is necessarily constantly evolving, and especially canon law, which cannot fail to follow the life of the Church
