- Lorenzo Milani. Abbasso tutte le guerre. Lettera ai giudici. Lettera ai cappellani militari
In these times marked by new wars, genocides and deportations, Lorenzo Milani's letters to military chaplains and judges, written in 1965, remain dramatically relevant and should be studied in all schools. In fact, in those letters Milani reinterprets the history of Italy since unification without celebratory rhetoric, as a brutal history of wars, ruthless colonialism, oppression of the poor and unpunished crimes. These two letters are still extremely dangerous today, as they break the mystification of Italian history. They expose the lies of power and denounce the silence of military chaplains faced with so many horrors and the glorification of blind obedience, condemning the illusory deresponsabilisation of the execution of orders, even murderous ones, given by the authorities. In this book, the editor uses unpublished trial documents to reconstruct the climate of those years and the trial that Milani had to endure because of his ideas. The reissue of the two letters, restored using the original sources, is accompanied by a set of notes that help the reader to better understand them and relate them to Milani's other writings.
