La mediazione papale come meccanismo per la promozione della pace: 40 anni del Trattato di Pace e Amicizia Argentina-Cile

The Pontifical Gregorian University, the Embassies of Argentine Republic and the Republic of Chile to the Holy See have co-organized the Conference “Papal mediation as a mechanism for the promotion of peace: 40 years since the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Argentina and Chile”.
This academic activity, which is held four decades after the signing of the treaty, pays tribute to the role played by Vatican diplomacy in the solution of the controversy, especially by Pope John Paul II and his special envoy Cardinal Antonio Samorè, which culminated in the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship on November 29, 1984.
This treaty has been fundamental in the building of an exemplary bilateral relationship, opening a horizon that has allowed a fluid dialogue based on cooperation and trust, with a strong sense of future and a vocation for peace.
The event will feature H.E.R.H. Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin as keynote speaker, authorities from both countries, diplomats involved in mediation, and an academic presentation on papal mediation at the international level.
