LA FORMA DEL CREDO

The history of the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, i.e., the creed that unites the various Christian denominations, is the story of the transition from a variety of professions of faith that arose within the ancient Christian communities to a single binding version of the faith proclaimed by believers. The author discusses the fundamental issues of this history, highlighting how the Creed that was composed between the Councils of Nicaea (325) and Constantinople (381) marked a momentous change for the future of the faith, both as a cultural, theological, and political expression at a given historical moment and as a long-term ecclesiological norm.
