LA DISPUTA MESSIANICA

Farisei, sadducei e la morte di Gesù

On 28 October 1965, the Second Vatican Council took a first fundamental step by declaring that the Jewish people as a whole should not be held responsible for the death of Jesus. Despite its importance, this declaration was not based on a detailed study of historical events. By shedding new light on the circumstances that led to Jesus' crucifixion, this book provides, for the first time, a solid historical foundation to support the Council's declaration. I hope that The Messianic Dispute will give rise to a new dialogue between Jews and Christians and contribute to healing this fundamental relationship. These words, found in the introduction to the book, which will be presented in the Italian edition by Adelphi - La disputa messianica (The Messianic Dispute) - clearly explain the importance of the work for the study of Judaism and for Jewish-Christian dialogue. The author Israel Knohl will be joined in conversation by the President of the Collegium Maximum of the Pontifical Gregorian University, Fr. Pino Di Luccio, SJ, and Don Maurizio Girolami, Dean of the Triveneto Theological Faculty.
