International Safeguarding Conference. One Commitment, Many Contexts: Safeguarding Across Cultures

The International Safeguarding Conference (ISC) will take place from 16–19 June 2026 at the Pontifical Gregorian University under the theme “One Commitment, Many Contexts: Safeguarding Across Cultures.” The event brings together academics, practitioners, religious leaders, educators, and advocates worldwide to explore safeguarding through an intercultural lens, with a focus on protecting children and vulnerable adults in diverse societies.

The conference aims to foster dialogue and shared learning across cultural contexts, helping participants develop more effective safeguarding practices. This year introduces a more interactive format, combining practical applications with theoretical reflection. Online working groups will contribute preparatory content, supported for the first time by a blended learning app to document local safeguarding practices. The programme is structured around three core principles—transparency, accountability, and compliance—encouraging participants to reflect on cultural differences, engage in collaborative analysis, and develop shared safeguarding guidelines. On-site working groups, supported by expert academic input, will continue these discussions during the conference. The final day will feature a Safeguarding Research Lab with presentations and poster sessions. Main sessions will be live-streamed free of charge on the official YouTube channel of the Pontifical Gregorian University (UniGregoriana) and then uploaded to the conference’s official website (www.thesafeguardingconference.org).
