In Christianity, when we speak of art space, we mean a paradigmatic religious-spiritual space, where the path to the internal space of the artwork can be shown as a place that becomes the space of realisation of the being of the world and of truth. Icons, narrative cycles or images are spaces that can lead to a metanoia, a con-versio in very different ways. The spaces of art can become spaces of self-knowledge, because they open up a view of the wholeness. The question is whether also in the art of other cultures and religions (China, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism) we can speak of art as space and to which extent a knowledge of the world or of God or the individual self can be realised in these spaces.
