- Gregorio XVI: La costruzione di una biografia papale.
The eighth and final annual meeting of the permanent seminar on the History of the Papacy will be held on Friday the 24th of May, room F007, at 5 pm. On this occasion Christopher Korten, from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, will hold a lecture entitled "Gregory XVI: the construction of a papal biography". Korten will present the challenges posed to the historian for the reconstruction of the biographical profile of a pontiff, Gregory XVI, born Bartolomeo Alberto Cappellari, from member of the Camaldolese order to Pope (1831-1846). He will discuss some generally overlooked aspects of Cappellari's pontificate, which can provide useful elements for understanding his action as Pope. In particular, Korten will analyze the priorities that marked the pontificate of Gregory XVI, also underlining the importance of his previous experiences, first within the Camaldolese Order and then in the Roman Curia, as prefect of Propaganda Fide.
