Giustizia, Verità e Pace in un mondo diviso

The Historical Archives of the Pontifical Gregorian University invites to reflection and to dialogue on the fragility of our time and on the complex metamorphosis of three key concepts of civil living: truth, justice and peace. The meeting will be accompanied by a documentary exhibition set up for the occasion. Two precious witnesses coming from the fund of Saint Robert Bellarmine will be exhibited: the autograph codex of his commentary on Psalm 84 (85) — where "justice and peace will kiss each other" — and a volume of his Controversies. These documents, born in an Europe already torn by confessional divisions, question us today on what the "return of the past" really means and how historical memory can be reused, sometimes to sacralize violence, sometimes to build new paths of dialogue. Through the comparison between peace as "Christian order" of the Middle Ages, peace linked to the law of state modernity and the uncertainty of contemporary society, the event aims to explore a new dimension of responsibility. In a world that no longer disposes of an hegemonic center capable of recomposing conflicts, peace cannot be the return to a lost unity or an imposed silence, but must become the difficult art of coexistence between differences.
