- GIUBILEO DELL'AFRICA
With the observable and rapid phenomenon of globalization in an increasingly interconnected world, a strongly secularizing and influential form of religion has emerged, significantly shaping the relationship between faith and society. In this context, traditional Africa distinguishes itself through a transversal religious sense of the centrality of God in all meaningful aspects of life, establishing – through a deep interconnection between practices and spirituality – a stable equivalence between culture and religion.
Therefore, to foster interreligious – and consequently intercultural – dialogue that promotes profound mutual understanding between different spiritual and scientific worldviews, this colloquium is directed towards academics, theologians especially liturgists, politicians especially diplomats, anthropologists, sociologists, economists…and anyone interested in the discourse between tradition and modernity. Among other objectives, this event aims to demonstrate that globalization does not entail homogenization but rather presents an opportunity to enhance religious and traditional diversity. The discussions will focus on how African Traditional Religion can engage with global dynamics without losing its enriching essence, which, in turn, has been elevated and enriched by Christianity.
By adopting an intercultural approach that allows for an analysis of reciprocal influences between African Traditional Religion, other faiths, and modern society, this meeting inherently opens up a transverse, multidimensional and interdisciplinary academic and existential challenge, engaging scholars, religious leaders, and local communities. Ultimately, by facilitating harmonious coexistence in a rapidly globalizing contemporary world, this debate creates essential openings for building bridges between cultures, religions, disciplines, and world view and perspectives on life.
