- Giornata di Studio. Umanità Svelata
Even before it is an object of clinical analysis or a psychological datum, emotion is the threshold where the Invisible takes on flesh and the infinite questions the human. Although our first interpretative instinct turns spontaneously to psychology, sensitivity and feelings actually open for us the access to the vertiginous depth of the human being. Christ himself lived this vibrant emotional fabric with radical intensity, as wonderfully attested by the culmination of his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. On the other hand, the pulse of affectivity is rooted in matter: the production of chemical substances and the work of contemporary neuroscience show us how biology shapes our brain, making a biochemical, physiological, and medical investigation fruitful as well. To complete this horizon, philosophy offers us the breadth of thought to question our very own ways of feeling and knowing. It is therefore only from an interdisciplinary and dialogical perspective - capable of weaving together psychology, theology, philosophy, and the biomedical sciences - that we can truly delve into that mystery of the human being who, in feeling and experiencing emotions, reveals themslves in their entirety
