- Bicentenario di Ayacucho (1824 – 2024) "La fede e la libertà nelle Americhe
The Battle of Ayacucho, which took place on December 9, 1824, established the independence of Hispanic America and represented a feat of unity of the Colombian, Venezuelan, Ecuadorian, Argentine, Chilean, and Peruvian peoples in search of freedom. The uniting of the American peoples for freedom also had a higher purpose: the union continental of all the nascent American nations, according to the dream of Simón Bolívar, who rightly thought that only by becoming a united power could Americans, as a single bloc, would be able to gain relevance in the consensus of nations. The commemoration of the Battle of Ayacucho is also an occasion to emphasize Peruvian identity: the center of Spanish power in America was concentrated in the ancient Peruvian viceroyalty, which explains the union of wills to liberate the last bastion Realist in America. American independence was also an enterprise of faith, as the clergy of the Catholic Church played an exceptional role in winning freedom, supporting the America from the pulpits, but also by welcoming battalions and donating to the patriotic cause the goods and treasures not essential for worship. Moreover, even after the independence of the Americas, the Catholic Church continued its work, through the work of evangelization, but also by offering services such as education, the census of citizens through baptism, and assistance to the most needy. To commemorate the Bicentennial of the Battle of Ayacucho is to commemorate a feat of faith of peoples in their freedom, a feat of love of life, an enterprise to carve out their own destiny, for every human being. The Latin American Christian of today is heir to those men who two hundred years ago obtained for the future generations the coveted dream of freedom.
