In Memory / Fernando de la Iglesia Viguiristi, S.J.

On Wednesday, 29 October 2025, at the house in Loyola (Spain), Fr Fernando de la Iglesia Viguiristi, S.J., passed away. Born in Pamplona (Spain) in 1954, Fr. de la Iglesia entered the Society of Jesus in 1976. He obtained a licentiate in Economics and Business Management from the University of Deusto (1976), a licentiate in Moral Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (1987) and, in 1993, a doctorate in Economic Theory from Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.).

Among his various positions, he has been president of the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools (IAJBS) and vice-rector of the University of Deusto. Sent to the Pontifical University in 2014, he taught courses in Economics and Christian Social Doctrine at the Faculty of Social Sciences, where he became an Extraordinary Professor (2016) and later an Ordinary Professor (2025). He contributed substantially to the establishment of the Licentiate in Leadership and Management at the same Faculty, which began in the 2020-2021 academic year. During 2025, he was sent to Loyola for medical treatment.

Grateful for his service and witness at our University, we commend him to the Lord and accompany him with our prayers. On Friday, 31 October, at 12:30 p.m., a Mass of suffrage will be celebrated at the University Chapel.
