Issue 39 of Ignaziana (www.ignaziana.org), a research journal in the tradition of the Society of Jesus, is now online.
This issue features some of the contributions planned for the Second Ignatian Colloquium on ‘Saint Ignatius of Loyola and the Holy Land,’ which, due to the uncertain international situation, did not take place in Jerusalem on the scheduled date but will be held in Rome on 23 October 2025.
"The apostolic field of the Society of Jesus, in the intentions of Ignatius and his first companions, was initially supposed to be Jerusalem," explains Fr. Pino Di Luccio, S.J., editor of the research journal. "Then contingent factors, and above all the dangers of navigation, diverted the destination to Rome and to the service of the Roman Pontiff (Autobiography 85.93-96). In the history of Ignatius and his first companions, discernment is sometimes simplified by facts and reality. The Second Ignatian Colloquium, which was supposed to be in Jerusalem but will instead be in Rome, reflects this type of discernment. We hope that this coincidence will encourage reflection on the importance of Jerusalem for the history and spirituality of the Jesuits and for Ignatian pedagogy."
