The Jury responsible for assessing nominations for the Bellarmino Prize within the Faculties and Institutes of the three missions of the Pontifical Gregorian University has decided to award the 2026 Bellarmino Prize to Rev. Fr Miguel Eduardo Gutiérrez Jiménez, of the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans), for his thesis defended at the Faculty of Oriental Ecclesiastical Sciences of the Pontifical Oriental Institute, entitled Mediadores de la política mediterránea. Los franciscanos de Monte Sion en las relaciones diplomáticas entre Occidente y el Soldán de Babilonia (1499–1507), moderated by Rev. Prof. Philippe Luisier S.J.
- The Prize will be awarded during the Dies Academicus, on May 19, 2027.
The Bellarmine Prize was established to stimulate scientific research and promote the two best dissertations defended at the Pontifical Gregorian University (one from the Faculty of Theology of the Collegium Maximum, and one from the other Faculties and Institutes of the Gregorian Missions). Nominations for the Prize must be submitted by January 15th of each year.
