The Very Rev. Fr. Arturo Sosa, S.J., Vice Grand Chancellor of the University, has appointed Rev. Fr. Dariusz Kowalczyk, S.J., President of the mission of the Collegium Maximum of the Pontifical Gregorian University, effective from September 1, 2026, for a three-year term.
Fr. Kowalczyk, after five years of teaching at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Warsaw—during which, from 2002 to 2003, he also served as Rector of the Jesuit College—was appointed Provincial of the Province of Polonia Maior et Mazovia in 2003, a position he held until 2009.
In 2010, he began his academic service at the Faculty of Theology of the Gregorian University. In 2024, he was appointed Full Professor. In March 2013, he was named Dean of the Faculty of Theology at the Gregorian, a role he carried out for two terms, until 2019.
Since 2018, he has served as Director of the “Theologia” series and, since January of this year, as Superior of the Jesuit Community at the Pontifical Oriental Institute.
“On my own behalf, and on behalf of the entire Academic Community, I wish to express my most sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Kowalczyk for accepting this appointment,” writes the Rector, Fr. Mark A. Lewis, S.J. “His willingness to place his experience at the service of the Collegium Maximum and of the entire University represents a gesture of great generosity and responsibility.”
“At the same time,” the Rector continues, “I would like to express my gratitude to Fr. Giuseppe Di Luccio, S.J., for the dedication and commitment shown during his term of office, and to extend to him, also on behalf of the entire University, my best wishes for his new role as Director of the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Jerusalem, which he will assume from September 1.”
