On Monday, April 20, 2026, the documentary “Francis – Chronicles of a Papacy” was broadcast in prime time, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the death of Pope Bergoglio. The Pontifical Gregorian University took part in the project at the express wish of the Rector, Fr. Mark Lewis SJ, who entrusted its coordination to the university's Press and Communications Office.
The Gregorian offered several locations—extensively featured in the filming—as well as the testimony of Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda, S.J., Rector Emeritus of the University. The broadcast reached a 5% audience share, corresponding to 847,000 viewers. The documentary is now available on the La7 platform at the following link:
The Pontifical Gregorian University will also commemorate Pope Francis's legacy on April 28th, with a study afternoon sponsored by the Center for Ignatian Spirituality and the Department of Moral Theology and Spiritual Theology ("The Spiritual Legacy of Pope Francis" - Tuesday, April 28th, 3:30 PM, Aula Magna).
