TI004E  THEORY AND PRACTICE OF INTERRELIGIOUS DIALOGUE (A.Y. 2026/2027)

Objectives : To know some theoretical and practical aspects of interreligious dialogue; To increase the awareness of the importance and the need for interreligious dialogue in the contemporary mission of the Church in pluralist societies

Learning outcomes : Improve the knowledge and the competence Overcome prejudice and opposition about dialogue. Apply knowledge and competence to one’s own life and work

Contents : T he meaning and the foundations of interreligious dialogue. The image of the religiously other. The teachings of the Catholic Church from the Second Vatican Council till today. Dialogue, Mission and Christian Proclamation. Some open questions from theology of mission, theology of religions and theology of dialogue. Dialogue as a path of truth. The spirituality and the experience of dialogue as a 'vocation' to live as persons and communities in ‘relation’ to believers of other religions. Practical implications of the teachings.

Methodology : Classroom-taught lessons with room for discussion with the students who may be asked or advised to read some papers or documents before each class.

Means of evaluation : the final exam will be oral. The student must prove to have achieved the general objectives of the course and have read a book or articles among those recommended.
